| Meagre 500 gm PDS sugar per family, masses left high and dry | | | Mohd Irfan Jammu, Aug 3: The proverb "A cumin seed in a camel's mouth" seems fit over functioning of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) which has sanctioned meagre 500 grams of sugar per family to Jammuites, in a bid to shut consumers' mouth. Sources informed Early Times that after two months of break in supply of PDS sugar, CAPD has sanctioned 500 gm sugar per family against previous sanction of 700 grams per head, inviting criticism from masses. "Department has asked us to deposit money as per family sanctioned quota and told to give 500 gm sugar per family and this decision of department brews resentment among masses", a ration dealer said. "In some families the 500 gram sugar is used daily and what can we do with such meager amount of sugar", Mohammad Shrief said. A ration dealer claimed that for Kashmir region CAPD has sanctioned 750 gm of sugar per family which was clear sign of discrimination with Jammu region. "With Eid at threshold, muslim fraternity has to made delicious dishes in the Ramadhan, but all families are totally depend on market for sugar supply", he rued and lambasted the government for their failure to ensure complete supply of sugar. "On every festive occasions government has been usually giving 1 Kilograms of additional quota of sugar in addition to normal scale but this time even normal quota has been decreased", Gian Chand castigated. Director CAPD GS Chib instead of giving proper reply said that he has given an interview to some reporter, so it was better to consult that reporter. The height of arrogance shown by Director could be gauged from the fact that he refused to reply any query of this correspondent and reiterated to listen interview. |
