Kathua, Aug 3: Continuing with on going surveillance to curb the menace of smuggling of goods sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur checked a Kashmir bound vehicle (JK13A-2865) on Thursday night. "The vehicle was declared to be carrying trade goods and cloth. During the checking it was found loaded with 100 kgs of tobacco concealed under trade goods and cloth. The sample of the tobacco was sent to Food Safety Officer, Kathua for his opinion who later on declared the said item 'as banned Item as the Tobacco Product bears the Logo of Vegetarian Food which is itself contravention of FSSA'," a statement of Excise Department said. Deputy Excise Commissioner, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed alongwith Excise and Taxation officers S Sanjay Bhat, Ravi Thakur, V S Billoria, Naeem Mugal, Sahil Jandyal and Lekh Raj and inspectors S Farooq Chowdhary and Susheel Bhat supervised the operation. "The driver and vehicle has been handed over to Commercial Taxes Department after imposing fine under the J&K Levy of Tolls Act," the statement said. |
