What freedom means
for the vast of the
majority of people on this part of the globe is that you get to vote for your representative A, B or C for five years in a fairly free and fair election and than you go home and keep your mouth shut for another five years, that is until the next elections come around. In this free country we have the right to free speech which is "enshrined in our constitution" Also "enshrined" with it are a series of "reasonable restrictions" anything that infringes upon the sovereignty and integrity of the country; the security of the state, public order, decency or morality, 'the security of the state, friendly relations with the neighbouring states, friendly relations with the foreign countries or in relation to contempt of court or an incitement to offence. These restrictions as one can see cover most meaning full exercise of right to free speech and expression. We are living in such a democracy where politicians governing the country have forgotten the principles of politics. The politicians should know that principles are must in politics. Politicians should stop doing politics if they cannot live by it. But unfortunately all politicians are doing the unprincipled politics, which is most dangerous.
Unprincipled, unethical and manipulated politics is the main cause of corruption. This is the real tragedy of this country. People wait for years that something will happen but it is not, 'and will not happen', your problems are your problems, you face it alone. You approach the government or even your elected MLA, you are promised but you know and understand that promises are always meant to break you feel disillusioned but you cannot do anything because you are helpless or not know the power of your vote.
Now you should think with all seriousness that the success of our subverted democracy now rests on only one hope that the people of India must exercise their prerogative of vote which is both a right and duty, with greater rigour. They must mobilize themselves through any manner that is compatible with the demands of their daily live, and create organizations that can continuously monitor the action of the government. The deep corruption networks of our democracy can only start reforming if they are under constant vigil by the people to ensure that political parties in power in different states or at National level are governing in accordance with their commitments and elections manifestoes. If they are not implementing their own manifestoes the people should demand immediate accountability.
The people of India have learnt some methods of demanding accountability through the judiciary and the media. The people of India should exercise the power of their votes with great caution and tenacity. Politicians will come and politicians will go understand that you elect them for good governance and for easing out your sufferings, 'Now they will again approach you for votes and even offer money take it, it is your money which they have embezzled from government exchequer or from people through bribes, but never give your vote to such people look for honest charactered and principled politicians. Be sure other innovative methods are also likely to emerge sooner or later; It is inevitable that those sections of the fourth estate that have virtually been brought up by the followers of corruption and grand larcency, need to be purified. Moreover combating corruption, improving governance, fixing the economy basing elections and governance on true secularism and not communalism. India has to secure for itself internal and external security.
Terrorism is one of the greatest threats to the security of the nation. It has evolved on various tracks and has several supporters, patrons, and chief patrons. Our western neighbour is encouraging a most destructive brand of terrorism to divide our nation once again on the basis of religion, and our eastern neighbor is trying to terrorize and destabilize the country. India has to fight multi brands of terrorists particularly those whose minds are totally warped by indoctrination of Islamic, Jehad, Maoism and Naxalism all of have to be some how neutralized. It is the duty of every Indian citizen and in particular secular Muslims leaders and left intellectuals to condemn in the strongest possible words such group and create public opinion among the people and carryout ceaseless propaganda against these brands of terrorism that endanger our internal security.
The people of the country belonging to all states without any hesitation admit that corruption has been institutionalized, particularly in the last decade that it has become a way of life for Indian democracy, the norms and not the exception cutting across politicians, government functionaries business, civil society, media, military and filtering down to common man; who is forced to become a bribe giver to survive in day to day life.
If we try to diagnose the source of most of our social and economic ills, except perhaps caste it can unformally be traced to corruption, whether it is persistence of poverty, political and governmental incompetence, police politization and brutality or service delivery failure particular in education, health childcare service public distribution of food and infrastructure development. A state failure on these counts plus systematic plunder of our country by the government can only perpetuate poverty and all its offshoots.
The more daunting task before the next government for which all patriotic political parties must apply themselves and do some serious homework and find the most effective tool to reconstruct the economy which is already in shambles and GDP falling below 5% is a matter of serious concern. Also of equal concern is irreversible food inflation, the current account deficit and governmental financial profligacy, and the great fall of rupee.
The government has failed to check siphoning off resources, checking of hawala transactions, non-blocking of offshore accounts, no check on stock markets. The government is responsible for economic audacity and the financial criminality has increased in direct proportion with their ability to get away with it with no serious challenge to its continuance. Everyday one scam surface and each scam that surfaces is bolder and more audacious than the previous.
The present government has forgotten that the country needs a balanced budget with national interest and development the financial strategy of the country. But it has not happened and UPA and its alliance has miserably failed to solve the problems of common man and common man is distracted from the congress. The leaders of congress party and beurocrats working under them have successfully engaged themselves in systematic loot of the treasury. There is no long term sustainable policy governance is not serious in improving the productivity of the nation be it manufacturing or agricultural sector. Government is once again playing with idea of relaxing rules for FDI in retail which is definitely a serious suspects because our government is sending uniequal vocal signals that only FDI is the panacea for our deliberated ruined economy and this is being done at a time when the rupee is sliding dangerously. Then is unchecked inflation and our down graded credit worthiness by international agencies is not only caring away foreign investment but even sending India Business investment to foreign destinations this demonstrates not only political, and economic bankruptcy, despite the battery of neoliberal economic advisors that assist our Prime Minister when the country passes thorough such a phase it become, the responsibility of the voters to throw out such governments our of power. The governments which believe in dynocracy, the parties which under the garb of socialism prefer their progeny to continue and those who believe in mobocracy.
