Jammu, Aug 3: Police today arrested four persons including one Sarpanch and recovered country made pistols and some sharp edged weapons from their possession on Friday late night. The accused have been identified namely as Ranjeet Singh Lugga (Sarpanch) s/o Karan Singh r/o Prthi Pur, Bishnah, Mithun Verma @ Deepu s/o Dev Raj Verma r/o Phinder R.S.Pura, Narinder Singh @ Vikku s/o Pritam Singh r/o Kathar Bishnah and Joginder Singh s/o Prabhu Singh r/o Deoli Bishnah.A senior police officer giving information said that on reliable information that four dreaded criminals equipped with country made pistols and sharp edged weapons in a white colored Maruti Swift car (without registration) in Sainik Colony area of Jammu City were on the move to eliminate their rival.
Immediately on the receipt of this information, Jammu Police (subdivision East) swung into action and four police teams headed, respectively, by S S Sambyal SDPO East Jammu, SHO P/S Channi Hinimat, Inspector Gurnam Singh, SHO P/S Trikuta Nagar Inspector Chanchal Singh and I/C PP Sainik Colony SI Sumit Sharma were formed under the supervision of SP South Rajeshwar Singh. "These teams were fanned out in the Sainik Colony area and plugged all the escape routes of the said vehicle. One of the police parties was successful in intercepting the sought after vehicle near Babber Chowk Sainik Colony, police officer said. He said, "On seeing the police parties approach, the criminals moving in the car tried to flee but they were apprehended by the alert police parties." "The alert naka team intercepted one Swift Car bearing registration number JMUL/7259 and the activities of occupants of vehicle further substantiated the suspicion of police, police said. "During frisking police seized two country made pistols and 3 'tokas' (sharp edge weapons) and one baseball bat from their possession, police said. Police said, "Four persons sitting in a car were also arrested on spot and a case against FIR No 72/2013 U/S 3/25, 4/25 Arms Act and 34 RPC has been registered with P/S Channi Himmat in this regard. During the preliminary interrogation it also discovered that Ranjeet Singh Lugga (Sarpanch) has been involved in several cases including murders. Similarly, the other accused have been found to be involved in several cases of crime, police said. Police also said, "Coincidentally one of the arrested persons, namely, Narinder Singh @ Vikku was also found involved in case FIR No. 25/20 13 U/S 307/341/323/34 RPC,4/25 Arms Act at P/S Bus Stand dated 10/06/2013 when Narinder Singh alias Vikku had attacked a university student near Bus Stand. The car used by the accused was also the same Maruti Swift which has been seized. |
