Shilpi Verma moves HC, demands shifting of writ petition from Sgr to Jmu

JAMMU, Aug 6: Victim of Bham Bham Bhole agitation Shilpi Verma, whose husband Kuldeep Verma sacrificed his life during the Amarnath land row has moved to the High Court seeking shifting of the writ petition from the Srinagar Bench to the Jammu bench of the High Court.
Shilpi Verma has moved to the High Court seeking justice for her and her children so that they can see the report of the justice (Retired) O P Sharma Commission of Inquiry, which was constituted in the year 2008.
Worthwhile to mention here that the writ petition sought to be shifted from Srinagar to Jammu has been filed by the police officers of J&K Police namely Shailender Singh presently SP, Mohan Lal Kaith, posted as SDPO border Kathua, Alok Kumar then SSP Jammu and Swatenter Arora then SDPO City North.
The petitioner through the counsels has submitted that her husband sacrificed his life consuming a poisonous substance on July 23, 2008 near Parade Ground, Brahmin Sabha Jammu when the issue of taking away of the Amarnath land by the government came to fore after Kashmiri leaders made provocative speech regarding not to return the land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.
The petitioner alleged that violating all norms, police caused mayhem at the spot dragging the ladies by their hair and took the dead body of petitioner's husband to a lonely place and at around 3:15 to 3:30 AM the petitioner along with other ladies were forcibly made to wait near the cremation ground at Bishnah Kunda.
The petitioner has alleged that against the customs and rites of Hindus his body was cremated after the sunset and in front of petitioner, police threw petrol, liquor and tyres to burn his body which is totally against the norms.
These acts of police officers and the administration triggered off massive, widespread protests in Jammu region and the government in light of this serious incident ordered a commission of inquiry of justice O P Sharma to inquire into the definite matter of public importance which led to the death of Kuldeep Verma.
She further said that the respondent number 1-4 comprising all the police officers then tried to tarnish the image of a retired High Court judge O P Sharma and in November 2008, the respondents filed the writ petition before the Srinagar bench of the High Court and on 28.11.2008 the single bench issued notice in the petition and directed the matter to be listed on December 3 2008 and till then step to finalise report were directed to be deferred.
