Tarigami, Mir, Hakim favouring Cong-PDP post-poll alliance
Trio in constant touch with Congress high command

SRINAGAR, Aug 6: Contemplating Congress-PDP post-election alliance in 2014, the three important political actors, MY Tarigami, Ghulam Hasan Mir and Hakim Mohammad Yasin are currently busy in working out a strategy to facilitate reconciliation between the two estranged former alliance partners.
The trio who played a pivotal role in the ouster of Mufti Mohammad Sayed as Chief Minister in 2005 to replace him by Ghulam Nabi Azad and also played their role in forging an alliance between National Conference and Congress in 2008, according to sources, are working overnight to ensure that there no pre-poll alliance in the state which according to the trio amounts to influencing the public opinion.
Sources told Early Times that Tarigami, Mir and Hakim are in touch with the Congress high command and have reportedly briefed the Congress leadership of the consequences of forging any pre-poll alliance.
They said as the three major political parties, Congress, PDP and NC not certain about their future have been measuring each other for pre or post-poll allies, the three political actors from Valley who have been instrumental in making and breaking alliances in the past, are vying for a Congress-PDP post-poll alliance, for, the trio are not satisfied with the performance of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Sources said to keep National Conference away from the power corridors in 2014, the trio are also in constant touch with National Panthers Party leadership.
It merits a mention here that Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hasan Mir recently opposed the idea of any pre-poll alliance stating that any kind of alliance before elections was sure to influence the public opinion.
National Conference leadership particularly the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have been unilaterally offering to have pre-poll alliance with Congress, but till date Congress has not replied to his offer. Sources said the tri from Kashmir valley enjoy a good relationship with New-Delhi establishment and as such their opinion carries much weight.
Similarly, the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is also in search of allies. In public this party claims to form the next Government in the state independently and on its own. However, the ground realities suggest that PDP too is not certain about what it claims publicly. It is also eying on alliance with Congress.
Sources said Ghulam Hassan Mir, Hakim Mohammad Yasin and MY Tarigaami can also have their share if they decide to put their weight behind Mufti Mohammad Sayed.
According to some political observers going alone to the elections (both Parliament and Assembly elections) is certainly in the interest of Congress for two reasons. First the Congress has not much opposition in its constituency viz Jammu region. Second going alone to the elections in the state will give more bargaining power to the party.
Congress is sure to play an important role in the 2014 Government in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Political pundits say that in such situation Congress can even claim to lead the next Government in the state due to its good bargaining position.
