| India must not walk into Pakistani trap | | Jeddah suggestion | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 6: Pakistan Premier Mian Nawaz Sharif, who won the general election in May this year with the support of extremist and anti-India outfits, including Lashkar-e-Toiba, on August 5 said that India and Pakistan should "sit down for serious talks on lingering issues for the benefit of their respective countrymen". The Pakistan Premier, who is on a private visit to Saudi Arabia, said so while talking to members of the Pakistan Journalists Forum (PJF), who met him at his residence at Jeddah. "We (Islamabad and New Delhi) have been piling up weapons for the past 60 years," he told the PJF, and added "Instead of spending so much on arms, we should focus on investing in social infrastructure for the benefit of our people". Obviously, he, apart from Sir Creek, Indus Waters and Siachen glacial region, hinted at the so-called Kashmir issue. What Mian Nawaz Sharif said was no more than a dangerous trap laid to entrap the weak-kneed and ambivalent Indian Prime Minister and the Indian Foreign Office which is controlled by a Minister who is soft both to Islamabad and Beijing. Both the Indian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in favour of starting a "meaningful and result-oriented" talks with Islamabad completely overlooking the fact that the security environment in the state after Mian Nawaz Sharif took over Pakistan Prime Minister for the third time in June 2013 has worsened. Cross-border terrorism has increased manifold and the Pakistani Army has been pushing towards this side hardcore terrorists to create disturbances in the state. During the last three months or so, Kashmir has witnessed a large number of terrorist-sponsored attacks and killed almost a dozen of our soldiers and CRPF and BSP personnel. It is a matter of grave concern that, instead of taking cognizance of the spurt in terror-related incidents in the state, the Indian Foreign Office is indicating its willingness to engage with Pakistan to discuss the Pakistani agenda, thus outraging the sensitivities of the nation. New Delhi must appreciate the sensitivities of the nation and tell Mian Nawaz Sharief in unequivocal terms that it would talk to Islamabad only after it vacated the illegally-occupied territories, dismantled terror-producing factories, handed over to India the most wanted criminals like Hafiz Saeed and stopped cross-border terrorism. This is what the Indian wants and stands for. Nothing less, nothing more. Jeddah suggestion is dangerous and it must be rejected out-of-hand. What Pakistan did to our five brave soldiers on last Monday night in Poonch sector is a proof that Islamabad will never change its attitude towards India. |
