| Private Engineering Colleges boast of fake placements | | Recruiters-IT coys mafia jeopardizing future of students | | early times report Jammu, Aug 6: Private colleges which have mushroomed all across the region in last few years are playing cruel pranks on their students in order to fetch more admission and make more money. The ordeal that Shubhneet Jolly - a pass out of B.Tech. in Computer Science (July 2013) at IET Bhaddal (Ropar) faced, exposes the nexus that exists between private engineering colleges and the makeshift or bogus IT companies which pose as recruiters and attend placement drives in private colleges in the region. During the placement drive in December 2012, in his final semester Shubhneed was selected by M/s. Integrated Tech Resources Pvt. Ltd. - a Kolkata based IT company. Shubhneet was given a 6-page appointment letter that stated that he has been selected as Developer at an annual package of Rs 1.72 lakhs. Nine more students of IET Bhaddal were handed over appointment letters signed by Smasish Roy, Head, HRM of M/s. Integrated Tech Resources Pvt. Ltd. and all the students were asked to report in Kolkata on 23rd July, 2013. Owing to this offer from M/s. Integrated Tech Resources Pvt. Ltd., Shubhneet did not seriously pursue his job hunt. After anxiously waiting for 23rd July Shubhneet along with his father Daljit Singh Jolly - Administrative Officer at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Mohali left for Kolkata. On 23rd July, at the company's given office address Shubhneet with his father met Mr Debashish Roy, Director, Integrated Tech Resources Pvt. Ltd. Little did Shubhneet know that an unceremonious welcome awaited him. Roy was not only cold in his behavior but was discourteous; initially he even refused to accept Shubhneet as the company's selection. Upon insisting, he agreed to keep Shubhneet and said that Shubhneet would have to undergo training for 6 weeks during which Shubhneet would have to clear a daily test by over 80% marks and in case he scores less than 80% in each test - his training would be extended and during the training period he would not be paid any salary. And he went on to say that if Shubhneed would get salary only after he reaches production floor team. Shubhneet's father brought Mr Roy's attention to the contents of the appointment letter. Roy asked D.S. Jolly to forget the appointment letter and that letter was no more valid and if Shubhneet wanted to work for them then he has to follow the instructions told by him. It is worth mentioning that M/s Integrated Tech Resources, Kolkata has no proper premises, they have just rented a flat in the residential area. Shubhneet and his father returned to Mohali and contacted J.S. Kanwar, Dean IET Bhaddal who referred us to Vivek Kumar, Director - M/s. Strategic Education, Mohali , who himself had no idea about the company he had sent us to. It is painful to realize that there exists a unethical nexus between the college and such companies, collectively they play with the future of students.' |
