Despite SC's Ban; vehicles with tinted glasses plying on roads
8/6/2013 11:39:54 PM
ET Report

Jammu, Aug 6 : Despite of strict ban on the use of tinted glass by the Supreme Court last year, violators have again started using the black films on their vehicle glasses.
With the rising temperature in the city, the use of tint and detachable shades has also increased in the vehicles, government vehicles are violating more than the private vehicles, and the drive of the traffic department, against the tinted glass seems to be dying a slow death. The tint increases the efficiency of the air conditioners but at the same time it violates the directions of the apex court. To implement the Supreme Court and state High Court directions the Traffic Police had started a drive against vehicles having black films and tinted glasses in August last year.
But now the drive has almost been abandoned. People are using tinted glass or the detachable sheets on their vehicles to make their air conditioners of the car more efficient. "I respect the direction of the Supreme Court, but the AC doesn't effect without shades or tint in this scorching heat, sometime it becomes difficult to sit in the car," said a violator, requesting anonymity. "At least something should be allowed to cut off some of the heat in summer", he added.
As per the direction of the Supreme Court there should be 100 percent visibility from all sides of the vehicle.
Manmohan Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic said, "Our drive against the tinted glass is on, we are regularly seizing all the vehicles with tinted glass, weather it is government vehicle or private."
"Nothing is allowed on the glass of the vehicle. We are vigilantly checking the vehicles using shades or curtains or tint on it," he added.
