JAMMU, Aug 6: After Ambika Soni was appointed the incharge of Jammu and Kashmir, her close associates, who were either sidelined, have started gearing up for the 2014 Assembly elections.
Sources said that a senior Congress Minister in Omar Abdullah's Cabinet is a close associate of Soni. In recent Cabinet reshuffle, he was sidelined and some important portfolios were taken from him and he was disappointed with the approach of Central leadership towards him.
Few months later when Soni became the incharge of J&K affairs, it has revitalized him and he again has started to gather the public support. The Minister is hopeful that if Soni continues to be the incharge of J&K affairs till 2014 Assembly elections, his chances of getting the most important portfolios and a higher position after the elections will be very high.
Congress is hopeful that the party may be able to form the next Government on its own without help from the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Congress leaders are hopeful that the party will be able to get above 30 seats and can form the Government in the State with the help of few small parties and independent members of legislative Assembly.
Some of them also feel that even if they are in need of taking the support from NC or PDP to form the Government but the party will not work as a second fiddle and will be A-team in the Government. At that time, there will be race among Congress leaders to get important portfolios.
That time the association with J&K affairs incharge will be the turning factor and if Soni continues to remain the J&K incharge, tis senior Congress Minister may get the best portfolio, which will be seen as his close association with Soni.
Sources in Congress party said that it is not other party leaders will not get anything but this Minister and senior Congress leader has remained Soni's close associate since long and when the time has come for Soni to give something in return, this Minister may get out of box things. |
