| Teenagers riding bikes, cars | | Traffic police in slumber | | Bijay Charak
Jammu, Aug 6: In gross violation of traffic norms students of many schools can be seen riding bikes, cars in and around Jammu city, which is a threat to people and even for these young drivers, but traffic police is seemingly in deep slumber over such violations. These teenagers are not only putting peoples' life in danger but many times tragic accidents have taken place in which many students have so far lost their lives.
The fault is not only of traffic police but the parents are also equally responsible for these violations who permit the teenagers to ride vehicles in crowded roads.
Monika Sharma a school teacher said that during morning and afternoon hours thousands of school going children could be found driving cars, riding bikes in narrow lanes and by - lanes and that too at high speed.
"At one hand majority of these young drivers never bother to wear helmet and on other the high speed creates terror among pedestrian, increasing possibilities of accidents," she regrets.
A senior citizen, Gian Singh Jamwal said that the road accidents have became a cause of concern, as at an average ten accidents took place in Jammu region on daily basis, resulting injuries to 12 persons and deaths of two.
Majority of these accident victims are youth, he added. "Majority of these young bikers belongs to rich families while their bikes are costly with much advanced engines. Time and again these children start chasing each other and sometimes the bikes get out of control, causing accidents", he rued. He further said that sometimes the traffic police officials took action against violators and minor drivers but majority of time they took it casually.
"It is not the sole responsibility of law enforcement agencies but of parents, who should at least restrict their wards to ride bikes", he asserted. Expressing partial helplessness over rampant violation of traffic rules by young driver, a traffic police official said, "We impose fine but majority of the children are from affluent families who after paying fine, get their bikes/cars released.
There is little impact of imposing fine" he said, He further added that the parents of the children should understand that underage children should not be given bikes. |
