| Political muscle shifts KGBV from identified village to Doda town | | | Arun Singh JAMMU, Aug 6: Violating the set norms of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) scheme, the residential school at upper primary level for girls belonging predominantly to the SC, ST, OBC and minority communities, is being run in city instead of its approved location at village Nai Dangri in Doda district. Sources told Early Times that the like in other districts of Jammu region, construction of KGBV in Doda district is also delayed from more than 6 years which was approved in village Nai Dangri in 2007 for educationally backward block of Doda district at the estimated cost of Rs 38.75 lakh which has a sizable number of SC families. Surprisingly, school is functioning from a hired building in Doda city instead of village Nai Dangri which has been approved under centrally sponsored programme. The residents of Nai Dangri alleged that the school has been opened in Doda city under political pressure and it has not been shifted to their village, its approved location, despite their repeated requests to the administration. Pertinently, the guidelines of KGBV scheme specify that about 75% of students have to be from SC, ST families or other minority groups and remaining 25% students could be from BPL families. But there are just 3 SC students in the school. About 50% of the students are from BPL families. Out of 38 enrolled students, 11 students are from general category. Sources further said the students in the KGBV Doda have not been provided uniforms. The students are being paid the monthly stipend of Rs 50 per month, they added. The students informed that they are being provided breakfast, lunch and dinner. Apart from the warden, the school has 7 teachers and 4 nonteaching staff members comprising 2 cooks, one peon and a Chowkidar. The post of Accountant/ Assistant is lying vacant. |
