Kishtwar minorities explode normalcy myth
Observe strike against `doctored' peace by Taj, Rana
8/23/2013 12:27:20 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: The state government's doctored peace and stage managed peace march in the Kishtwar has been exposed within the 24-hours with minority communities observing strike.
The doctored peace was engineered by Devinder Rana, close confidant of chief minister, on the day when the state government in an affidavit in the Supreme Court stated that it had put in efforts to build confidence among the two communities.
Rakesh Mahajan and Somnath Sharma of Kishtwar, who were taken out by NC provincial president Devender Singh Rana to participate in peace march have made it clear that they didn't participate in the march with heart. Somnath Sharma has given in writing to the minority community that he didn't go to attend peace march by his own choice.
This has made it clear that peace march in Kishtwar was just attended by people from one community and not attended by the minority community. Leaders like Jugal Bandhari, Sunil Sharma, Sanatan Dharam
Sabha members were not part of the peace march. Without taking these leaders into confidence, no peace march is possible in the town as they claim to be the representatives of Hindu community.
Not only the BJP and sanatan dharam sabha leaders skipped peace march, but the PDP leaders of both communities who hold important position in Kishtwar were not part of the march. Though it is a fact that the Imam of Jamia Masjid was made head of the group of Muslim community of Kishtwar, who played an important role to defuse the tension but participation of political leaders of PDP could have added to its credibility.
The apprehensions raised by BJP leaders in Jammu during a press conference must be addressed and if security of a person is not taken into the consideration, the situation might be back to square one.
The role of NC has been exposed during this process and how Rana managed to take leaders of minority community for a stage managed peace march.
The doctored peace was bound to be exposed as both BJP and Panthers Party had boycotted the meeting and left Kishtwar expressing their displeasure over it. But the state government in its press note had blamed them of non-cooperation.
The Medical Education Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din boasted that after the boycott of these two parties he decided to take on the responsibility and brokered peace between the two communities.
According to reports, the government in a desperate attempt to bail out itself, managed to pressurize some members of the minority community to attend the peace march and showcase to the nation and state in particular that peace had been restored.
However, latter some of the people from minority community told Santan Dharam Sabha that they were forcefully taken and they also tendered apology for the same. The so-called leaders left Kishtwar soon after to earn brownie points with the chief minister, who himself has not visited Kishtwar till now but was managing affairs from the Jammu itself.
The so-called powerful leaders had miserably failed in addressing the concerns and demands of the minority communities: the FIR against Sajjad Kitchloo and also instituting CBI inquiry into the incident. The government also failed to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected people. The government has engineered doctored peace at its own peril and the situation remains as explosive as it was on August 9. The peace, it is believed, can be restored only after addressing the concerns of the minority community.
Continuous tension and insecurity among the minority community virtually came to fore front soon after the much hyped visit of All Party Delegation as traders belonging to the minority community refused to open their shops for business today even as authorities continued with relaxations in the curfew imposed in the town in the wake of recent communal clashes on Aug 9. Even the administration relaxed curfew restriction in three phases today on Thursday but the businessmen from the minority community showing resentment against administration did not open their units demanding compensation first. They demanded government to give them compensation and other benefits as committed by the government.
"The peace march and All Party Delegation's visit seemed to have no impact as it failed to address the aspirations of minority community traders, alleged one of the traders.
Meantime Divisional Commissioner Shant Manu said that the authorities would commence assessment of the damage caused to different properties from Thursday. He said that the police would separately carry out its investigation into the incidents. "A judicial enquiry, to be conducted by a retired High Court judge, who is yet to be nominated, would run independently into the circumstances that led to the communal riots in the State.
