Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: State unit of BJP may well be in euphoria for the lead it took and some gains it made in the political developments post clashes in Kishtwar, it has yet to strengthen its grip in Jammu and adjoining areas which are considered to be strong bastions of the party. Thanks to the 'policy of appeasement' (of stalwarts and senior leaders) as also the culture of lobbyism which is driving the party into fragments rather than making it as one cohesive force, formidable for the rivals.
Sources from within the party said that the major cause of worry for those who are associated with the party as a matter of conviction and ideological commitments is that BJP's citadel Jammu which is considered to be stronghold in many ways is crumbling and at a time when it the leadership would look upon it and expect it as the political mainstay is just not so . Nor has the party made any serious attempt to protect serious dents to this fort , which are more self inflicted, sources said adding that wrong decisions vis-a-vis assigning posts to naive and fresh incumbents is simply proving fatal to the interests of the party.
Sources said the waning popularity of the BJP in its stronghold Jammu as also in the adjoin areas where it would remain blindly confident and complacent about the strength can be gauged from day to day activities and programmes in which the number of its own cadres and supporters and even the functionaries are shrinking . Sources said even though the leadership organized a plethora of protests , demonstrations lately over a number of burning and relevant issues core to ideology and in line with the policy of the party at State level and at national level too, the number of participants have been dwindling , much to the worry of the State leadership. "There used to be voluntary participation of the people from Jammu city on any issue raked up by BJP frequently as the party has a number of supporters in the city and in the entire district….. but this voluntary participation is gradually dwindling…", said a senior leader of the party, explaining the cause of the waning strength in party's stronghold.
However, the leadership has realized and felt what can be seen as fading and declining magic it used to have in Jammu over the supporters . Perhaps this realization dawned has forced the leadership to take this major decision of dividing Jammu district, Akhnoor, the two main and big districts into two parts- the mandals, which can help them manage and organise the political activities in a better manner. This however, remains to be seen what else the leadership has in its kitty to restore the magical stronghold to its past strength and popularity.
