| Rattanpuri challenges Omar, ridicules Kamaal | | NC hand-in-glove with 'RSS' | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 22: The ruling National Conference (NC) is being roundly denounced by almost all the parties. Even some of the Congress leaders do not spare the NC. But more importantly, the NC is being condemned by some NC leaders as well. One of the NC leaders has even gone to the extent of challenging NC working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, ridiculing his uncle and party additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal and accusing one NC leader of being hand-in-glove with the RSS and the Bajrang Dal. The case in point is what Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri, who is party MP in Rajya Sabha, said on Wednesday while taking on the top NC leadership. A few days ago, a report suggested that he may join the Congress. Holding the NC responsible for "responsible for the prevailing uncertainty in Kashmir", Ratanpuri, who maintains very good relations with Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on August 21 asserted that "at least one leader within NC ranks is hand in-glove with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bajrang Dal". "Some people blame me of being a man of Delhi but let me say that there are some people in National Conference who have close contact with Bajrang Dal and RSS. My party colleagues have already started distancing themselves from me as I always speak truth," he was quoted as saying. He did not stop just there. He went to say that the NC currently has no agenda 'as the party's agenda is being sacrificed for one person'. But I believe that more than persons the party important. Though working President of the party and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sought my resignation from the party which I have not given yet but let me tell him that he should come out with the reasons and tell me what wrongs I have committed. Does he want resignation just because I speak the truth?" Rattanpuri not only challenged the very authority of Omar Abdullah and dismissed the NC as directionless, but also lambasted Mustafa Kamaal. "He does not even know what he is doing and saying. No discipline is left in the party as there are people like Mustafa Kamaal who create mess through their glib utterances," he reportedly said, and added that "I will (never quit the NC) as I always want to serve the people of Kashmir" and that "I will fight for those Kashmiris who have lost their men during the last 22 years in Kashmir turmoil". Interestingly, Rattanpuri had some good words for party president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah. "Except for Dr Farooq Abdullah, National Conference leaders have developed vested interest and are using the Kashmir issue to settle personal scores…Such leaders should be disassociated from the party," he said. It needs to be noted that there are many Rattanpuris in the NC both in Kashmir and Jammu, but they have not as yet mustered courage to come out openly against those who have established their control over the party. They do speak but not in public like Rattanpuri. There are reasons to believe that they would air their views sooner than later, as their patience is ending. |
