| Curfew relaxed in three phases, businessmen, students most aggrived lot | | Kishtwar limping to normalcy.... shops remain shut | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 23: Though normalcy is limping back in district Kshtwar after fourteen days of trouble and violence , demands from various corners have started pouring in for redressal of their grievances. The businessmen demanded compensation commensurate with the losses they have suffered .The parents of the students demanded over time schooling so that syllabi could be completed before exams. Sources said that even administration gave relaxation in three break ups in curfew imposed district Kishtwar but the business establishments remained shut as the businessmen demanded compensation from government first that too at par with the losses. As per reports, the administration gave relaxation in the curfew in three phases today but the businessmen did not open their units demanding compensation first. However, no untoward incident is reported and the majority community offered Friday prayer. Earlier, administration deployed heavy security force to thwart any untoward incident if happened. District Magistrate of Kishtwar Baseer Khan said that he ordered relaxation in the curfew, for the second time since August 9 on Wednesday. Earlier, representatives of both the communities attended a joint meeting at his office, along with the all-party delegation."However, curfew will continue as a precautionary measure from dusk to dawn for some days.", Mr. Khan said. Pertinently, Divisional Commissioner Shant Manu had already said that the authorities would commence assessment of the damage caused to different properties from Thursday. He said that the police would separately carry out its investigation into the incidents. A judicial enquiry, to be conducted by a retired High Court judge, who is yet to be nominated, would run independently into the circumstances that led to the communal riots in the State. |
