| Fashion of 'Lal Batis' makes mockery of rule books | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 23: While the constitutional position of who should and who shouldn't use a 'Lal Bati' on his/her vehicle is more than clear so-called VIPs of all hues and colours are these days sporting a 'Lal Bati' on their vehicles to assert their status in the society, The latest addition to this tribe of 'Lal Bati' privileged class are some Sarpanches who had started displaying flags on their vehicles while are highlighted after sunset by the use of 'Lal Batis'. This has made a mockery of the rules as every tom, dick and harry is nowadays seen moving about in traffic displaying a flag which is highlighted by a red beacon light during the night. As per rules already clarified and written only persons with a constitutional authority and those among these who are authorized can alone display flags on vehicles which require use of a red beacon light during darkness. Many politicians who have no constitutional authority to do so are seen sporting flags on their vehicles and using red beacon lights in the evenings and during hours of darkness. This self-proclaimed authority needs to be immediately checked as it ridicules the constitutional authority of those who are otherwise permitted to have the privilege. |
