Sports Reporter JAMMU, Aug 23: Semifinals position has been cleared in the inter-district divisional level under-19 boys' tennis ball cricket tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Green Field ground, here on Friday. Teams reaching the last four stages are Samba, Udhampur, Doda and Reasi. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played on the opening day today, Samba outplayed host district Jammu by four wickets. Batting first, Jammu made 54 runs for two wickets in given eight overs, which, in reply, Samba chased making 55 runs in 7.3 overs for the loss of four wickets. In another quarterfinal, Udhampur defeated district Ramban by 44 runs. Batting first, Udhampur set a target of 86 runs, which, in turn, Ramban could not chase. Failing to maintain the required run-rate, Ramban exhausted their quota of eight overs for 41 runs losing five wickets. To reach the semifinals, district Doda beat their counterparts from Poonch by seven wickets. Poonch lost all their wickets for 31 runs in 6.3 overs. In reply, Doda chased the total in 4.2 overs to make it a seven wickets win. District Reasi also won their quarterfinal tie played against Rajouri beating latter by eight wickets. Earlier, batting first, Rajouri made 40 runs for seven wickets, which, in reply, Reasi chased in mere 3.2 overs without loss. Jammu girls win title Meanwhile in under-19 girls' category, Jammu district won the final beating district Rajouri by 88 runs. Only two teams turned up for the competition in girls section. In this match, batting first, Jammu set a target of 102 runs for three wickets in given eight overs. In reply, Rajouri made a meek surrender to bowl out for just 14 runs. |
