| Employee strike affects work in Govt offices for second day | | Time has come to deal differently with Govt: Wani | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Aug 23: Work in government offices remained affected across the Kashmir for the second consecutive day Friday due to strike by the employees. The call for the state-wide strike was given by the employees Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), the umbrella body of 4.5 lakh government and semi-government employees in the state, who are seeking payment of Sixth Pay Commission arrears, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years and regularization of ad-hoc and daily-wage employees. Reports said normal work was affected in government offices due to the strike. JCC office bearers though claimed all the essential services were exempted from this strike. However Early Times received phone calls from many rural areas of South Kashmir where people claimed thatbesides schools public health centres and public works department employees also observed this strike, resulting in sufferings to the common masses. The strike call given by JCC though remained peaceful today across the Kashmir. JCC President Abdul Qayoom Wani while talking to Early Times said that 'brutal force' used by administration yesterday in Srinagar is condemnable act and now time has come deal differently with government. He alleged that the prevailing government in Jammu and Kashmir is handled by famed bureaucrats and some prominent black sheep 'which is like a dictatorship of any country where rule of law does not exist and where people are treated brutally.' "We have decades old demands and repeated breach of trust by state government is adding worries for themselves as the pace of protest with every passing day in Kashmir will increase and sole responsibility will of the state government only," he said Wani added that while as peaceful protests of employees seem least effective for state government over the years, but now time has come to use different tactics to deal in equal pattern the way state government office bearers deal with the thousands of employees of Jammu and Kashmir. While commenting on the future strategy of JCC he said that within next three days a new programme of strikes will be declared and this time mode of protest will be different altogether keeping in 'view the tactics of repeated breach of trust game by this government and heart rending sufferings of the employees because of irresponsible attitude t wards them by the office bearers of state government.' Pertinently on Thursday some prominent union leaders of JCC along with hundreds of employees tried to take up a march from Sher-e-Kashmirpark towards Gupkar Road residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in which police swung into action and dispersed the protesting employees in which dozens of employees were detained by the police and a scuffle broke out between police and protestors in the area as well. |
