J&K Govt seeks Rs 84 Cr from Centre under BRGF

SRINAGAR, Aug 23 : Jammu and Kashmir government has sought Rs 84 crore from the Centre under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) to boost development of the state's backward districts.
"A plan of Rs 84 crore under the BRGF from current year's plan has been sent to the Centre for allocation," Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar said at a meeting convened to review the physical and financial achievements of the department. The plan has already been approved by the State Empowered Committee under the programme recently, a government spokesman said. It was also decided in the meeting that the state government would send a proposal of Rs 55 crore under the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhyian (RGPSA) to the Centre for release of funds for capacity building of Panchayat representatives which would help in further strengthening of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state, he said. Threadbare discussions were held on various issues including proper implementation and judicious use of funds under BRGF, RGPSA, Rashtriya Gram Sawaraj Yojna (RGSY) and e-Panchayat, the spokesman said.
