| Senior Army functionaries to review border security scenario | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 26: Senior Army functionaries, including the Army commander, Lt General, Sanjiv Chachra, have started visiting forward border are as in Jammu and Kashmir for a comprehensive review of the security scenario following repeated ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops. Reports said that tension has soared on the LoC over the past weeks with regular exchange of fire between the troops of both the countries. Both claim that the ceasefire violations are being committed by the other. The situation reached a boiling point on August 6 when five Indian soldiers were killed in their own territory at the LoC. Since then, Pakistan Army has also lost four of its men including a captain. Defence Ministry sources said that though the Indian troops have been directed to retaliate whenever and wherever Pakistani troops open fire but Islamabad was trying to exaggerate while giving figures on the killing of civilians in Indian fire. Sources said that the Indian troops usually target the border posts of Pak troops and the claim of Islamabad that civilian areas were targeted by the Indian troops was false. Sources said that the main purpose of the comprehensive review of the security arrangements on the LoC and the IB was to ensure that all conventional an non-conventional infiltration routes were fully plugged. It was aimed at finding whether there was need for deploying additional companies of troops on the border. The sources said that the basic aim was to check ingress of militants when the only reason for ceasefire violation by Pak forces was to carve out a safe passage for militants to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir under the cover of fire. The Indian troops have understood the game-plan and have decided to retaliate Pak firing with full force and fury so that neither the militants nor Pak soldiers were in a position to violate ceasefire. In the meantime intelligence agencies have been told. |
