| Toppers fail semesters in their colleges | | BOPEE 2012 examgate | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Rendering credence to the news reports about 2012 CET exam gate, most of the students who had come under public scanner last year for topping the fishy and scandalous entrance test, have failed to qualify the internal examination held by the medical college Srinagar and have been declared ineligible for appearing in 1st MBBS (Regular) Examination being held by the University of Kashmir from August 20. It merits a mention here that this News-paper had uncovered CET 2012 exam gate scandal held on June 5, 2012. The newspaper uncovered the story on June 30, 2012 stating that the CET 2012 results have come as a startling development for the meritorious and career conscious students of the State who appeared in the examination with full confidence but could not make it as there is more to it than meets the eye. Now when the internal examination was held by the GMC Srinagar, about 20 candidates whose names figured in the last year's exam gate have failed and have been declared ineligible rather have not been allowed to sit in the 1st year MBBS examination which started from 20th of this month. Early Times accessed the results declared by the GMC which clearly shows that all those candidates whose names figured in the previous year's BOPEE examgate could not qualify the internal examination and have been declared ineligible for appearing in the 1st MBBS examination. Astoundingly a girl candidate from Rawalpora Srinagar (name withheld) who scored 2nd position in CET 2012 has failed in all the papers. Similarly another girl candidate from Bijbehara village who also scored a top rank in CET 2012 has also failed in all the subjects and has not been allowed to sit in the 1st MBBS examination of Kashmir University. Out of 100 1st year students, 20 candidates have been declared ineligible and interestingly all those candidates who had come under public scanner last year and most of them from South Kashmir's Anantnag district figure in the list of ineligible candidates. A Professor and HOD of Medical College Srinagar when contacted told Early Times on the conditions of not to be named that the students who have been declared ineligible could not even spell out the simple words like "farmer" correctly. He said one of the students wrote the profession of his father in a column as "Former" instead of " Farmer". He said that one of the candidates was asked about the organs lying in chest but he could not give answer to it, He said on contrary when the same question was put to a UKG student he quickly replied that lungs and Heart are located in chest. "I wonder how these students topped the last year's CET when they could not differentiate between "former" and "farmer" " said the professor. An Assistant Professor in GMC Srinagar wishing anonymity told early times that he was shocked to observe that some students of the 1st year were totally dullards which gives credence to the news reports that CET conducted by BOPEE lacks credibility and transparency. It merits a mention here that the Crime Branch of the J&K Police had reportedly registered a case last year and had even started investigations in the BOPEE examgate, however, the fate of that case was not known. |
