| Militants attack Police party in broad day light | | Cop killed, injured civilian injured | | Saahil Suhail ANANTNAG, Aug 26: On Monday, militants while asserting their presence in South Kashmir's Arwani Bijbehara area of district Anantnag, attacked police party resulting in death of one policeman and injuries to a civilian. While fleeing, militants also took away the weapon of the slain cop. Following the incident, police along with Army and CRPF launched a man hunt to nab the militants that continued till late evening. Reports said that at around 12:30 pm militants attacked SOG party in Arwani area during which one police man of 14th Battalion of Armed wing identified as Salamt-ul-Khan son of Barkat-ul-Khan resident of Uri Baramullah and one civilian identified as Sabzar Ahmad Naik son of Mommad Shaban Naik resident of Chenehgam Yaripora sustained injuries. Both of them were shifted to sub-district hospital Bijbehara immediately; however the policeman succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while as injured civilian who received injuries in his leg is said to be stable. Militants also succeed in snatching the AK-47 Rifle, of the slain cop, police sources confirmed. Sources said that deceased policeman was last in the row of the party heading towards Arwani Chowk- few meters away from their camp at Hassanpora Bijbehara. Soon after the attack security forces, including police, Army and CRPF rushed towards the area and cordoned off the area and manhunt to nab the militants, who carried out the attack. Unconfirmed reports said that police has detained at least three persons in connection with the militant attack. |
