Abodh Sharma Jammu, Aug 26: After inviting sharp criticism for the manner in which Board of professional entrance examination (BOPEE) conducted the latest entrance examination to the professional colleges of the state, resentment is brewing against it for lack of transparency and unprofessional way in which Board responded to queries. A parent in Jammu has accused the chairman of the Board, Prof. RD Sharma of high handedness and discourtesy. Mother of a candidate appearing in sports quota who missed to make it to the final list by a whisker, was desperate to seek a clarification as according to her, her daughter had secured more marks in aggregate than another candidate who had appeared in the list, but due to curfew in Jammu and Bandh in Srinagar, she was not able to establish contact with the Board. Concerned mother somehow managed the mobile number of the Chairman, but was taken aback by the manner in which her call was responded to. "I was astounded by the manner in which the chairman answered my call… rather than appreciating my concern and guiding me, he was rude and discourteous and put off the call even when I was trying to explain him my plight" said the lady. "On tenterhooks with regards to future of my daughter, I had to seek legal opinion from a leading lawyer in Jammu" added the concerned mother arguing that had the Chairman given her a patient ear, they could have been spared days of uncertainty. Besides paper leak, BOPEE also faced serious loss of credibility when discrepancies were discovered in the question papers set by it and the manner in which the crisis was dealt with by the authorities. "Various questions in different papers including Physics, Chemistry and Biology were claimed wrong by aspirants. The matter was sent to subject experts who recommended that claims of students are true as both the 'correct options,' suggested by aspirants and paper setters, were 'appropriate," the sources said. "But students were kept in dark and the answer key was not updated on the BOPEE website. Marks were awarded to only those who had marked options according to answers suggested by the representations," they said. While the delay caused by cancellation and re-examination of CET costed the State dearly as at least 50 seats that fell vacant at the National Institute of Technology Srinagar will remain unfilled for next four years, BOPEE yet again came under severe criticism for misleading students on admission fee. |
