| Flood affected families rue administrative cold shoulder | | 3kg Atta, a candle, a match box for 'relief' | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Aug 26: Flood affected people in Udhampur district today launched strong protest against authorities for callous and indifferent approach in their relief and rehabilitation. Majority of families who lost their houses in Dalah village and are staying in Municipality Community Hall raised slogans against district administration alleged that except assurances from political leaders and local administration they got nothing and were at the verge of starvation along with their children. Holding protest outside community hall Amar Singh and Mulkh Raj alleged that in the name of relief given by local administration they got 3 kilograms "Atta", one match box and a candle per family which is like a cruel joke with them. They alleged that the response of government as well as local administration has not been up to the mark as neither do they have adequate planning, nor the requisite trained manpower to cope up with the crisis. They alleged that affected people have been forced to take refuge in houses of neighbourers, relatives or in public places like schools, but administration is nothing but a mute spectator. Meanwhile Social worker Anil Paba and Parvesh Parihar of Udhampur Development forum an NGO expressed deep concern about attitude of administration towards poor and needy people and demanded immediate relief to them .They said hundreds of houses have been razed to the ground due to incessant rainfall whereas landslides have also caused severe loss to the properties, agricultural lands in Dalah village . Meanwhile talking to media Additional deputy commissioner Vikas Sharma said, "we are taking steps to provide relief to effected families and in this regard direction has been given to revenue officials". |
