| JKEDI pushs for promoting entrepreneurship in Ladakh | | Creates awareness for minority development loan scheme | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Leh, Aug 27 : As part of its state-wide entrepreneurship awareness mandate, Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) held a day-long programme to ignite a new generation of job creators in Ladakh region of the state. The awareness camp organised Monday at the Community Hall Shenam in Leh was attended by over 100 participants including sarpanchs, naib sarpanchs, councilors and district officers from various departments. This marked the beginning of JKEDI's state-wide awareness campaign of term loan scheme being sponsored by the central government under the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC). Financial assistance for projects costing up to Rs.5 lakh is provided to backward sections among minorities under NMDFC's term loan scheme at concessional interest rates. Director JKEDI, Dr. M.I. Parray advised people in the region to avail maximum benefit from NMDFC schemes since the region is predominately Muslim and Buddhist populated. He urged the sarpanchs and councilors to spread awareness about these schemes. Rigzin Spalbar, the chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), stressed on the need to promote entrepreneurship in the state where people usually look up to the government for jobs. He exhorted upon the youth to set up entrepreneurial ventures rather than wait for government jobs. It is not possible for the government to provide jobs to all and people should chose entrepreneurship to become job creators rather than being job seekers, Spalbar said. He said the focus of different entrepreneurship oriented schemes should be more women centric so that they are able to reap the benefits. "There is an immediate need to reduce the communication gap between beneficiaries and implementing agencies," Spalbar said, emphasising on proper dissemination of information about various loan schemes through such awareness camps for unemployed youth. Executive Manager, JKEDI Ladakh division, Dorjay Wangchuk explained in detail various start up finance schemes being implemented by the institute. He said over 250 beneficiaries have already received seed money worth Rs. 6 crore while 35 beneficiaries have been provided finance to the tune of Rs.60 lakh under the term loan scheme of NMDFC. JKEDI is a government-run organisation fostering entrepreneurship at the grassroots level in the state. |
