| Vested interests cannot disturb communal harmony in Kishtwar | | People of Jammu known for liberal values | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 27: Vested interests and Pakistan-sponsored terrorists and extremists have been trying their best to disturb peace in Jammu province and create schism in the Jammu society for more than two decades now. The August 9 Kishtwar violence was the handiwork of such elements and a few disgruntled elements here and there. Notwithstanding these unfortunate incidents, the people of Kishtwar have once again proved by their actions that no power on earth can divide them on communal lines. Both the communities have resumed their day to day activities and the social ties between the two communities continue to remain as strong as before. Both the communities believe in mainstream politics and share each other's happiness and sorrow. That the Hindus and Muslims of Kishtwar, like other parts of Jammu province, are ardent believers in communal harmony and national unity could be seen from the fact that the Kashmiri separatists have failed to establish their foothold in any part of the province, including Kishtwar or for that matter in the erstwhile Doda district and twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The credit for the defeat of the Kashmiri separatists goes to both the communities which have been resisting the communal onslaughts with full might since early 1990, when the separatists turned their attention to the areas in Jammu province where members of the majority community were quite numerous. Medical Education Minister and Congress leader Taj Mohi-ud-Din only hit the nail on the head when he said in Kishtwar some nine days ago that what happened in the district was the handiwork of outsiders and those who wanted to de-link Kishtwar from Jammu province and merge it with Kashmir. He was absolutely right. There are reasons to believe that both the communities will not only co-exist in a peaceful manner as before but would go on defeating those who want to vitiate the atmosphere in Jammu province. At the same time, the administration would do well to identify the bad elements so that they are brought to justice. This is what the communities in Kishtwar want. |
