Follies of Cong -NC alliance responsible for revival of militancy in J&K
8/27/2013 11:40:52 PM
ET Report
JAMMU, Aug 27: The increasing militancy related incidents in the State coupled with cross border firing has fully revealed that militant groups have succeeded in regrouping in the State and all claims made by the State as well as Central Government that the terrorism was down have now proved hollow.
The increasing terrorist attacks on police army and civilians in Kashmir valley have set all speculations about the return of normalcy in trouble torn State of J&K to rest and the achievements made during the PDP rule have been lost as terrorist groups have succeeded in reviving militancy in the State by making common man hostage again.
According to sources the weak knee policies of UPA Government led by Dr Manmohan Singh has been one of the main causes of providing oxygen to militant groups who were on wane otherwise. The failure of Union Government to assert its position in the State and giving a long rope to Omar Abdullah led coalition has been one of the causes of the prevailing situation in the State, sources added.
Sources said what ever gains were made during the previous coalition rule led by Mufti Mohammad Syeed in bringing people to main stream were negated during this regime by its policies which were framed at keeping the vote bank politics in mind. Soon after the Omar led Government assumed office in the State the incidents like Shopian kidnapping and rape surfaced which saw unrest in Valley for months together. This was followed by the stone pelting incidents for another two Summers in Kashmir followed by worst ever communal violence in Kishtwar this year, sources added.
Sources said unprincipled alliance between NC and Congress has been one of the main causes for deteriorating situation in the State as the two parties neither cooperated at Ministerial level in running the coalition smoothly nor at grass root level as there were contradictions every where. The infighting continued in coalition and workers at grass root level too were annoyed with each other seeking Union Government's intervention and even the Congress leaders open demand of dismissal of Omar led Government, sources added.
Sources said with UPA Government as well as Congress high Command paying no heed to the growing demand of the Congress activists in the State who were demanding either pull out from coalition of dismissal of the State Government the situation aggravated in the State further. Taking full advantage of the loopholes of the Government the separatists succeeded in regrouping the militant cadres in the State during these years to revive the militancy and intensify their activities to give a setback to peace process, sources added.
Sources said Congress has been at the receiving end due to its own follies as NC by taking a tough posture was trying to cultivate its constituency. The open violence in Bhaderwah in presence of then MoS Home has been an indication in this regard. Otherwise had the NC leadership been sincere such a destruction would have not taken in the home town of the Minister who was in charge of Law and order machinery that too in his presence, sources added.
Sources said the failure of Congress party to act in time has been to the advantage of separatists who took the full advantage of infighting between two coalition partners especially the rhetoric of NC senior leader Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal and Congress leader Abdul Gani Wakil who have been day in and day out accusing each others party for present political mess in the State.
Sources said the situation in Kashmir has reached back to 1989 -90 position due to the follies of UPA Government at Centre which just to satisfy the ego of some leaders preferred alliance with NC than PDP to form the Government in 2008 in the State. The Congress High Command was so soft towards NC at that time that it not only offered NC a Ministerial berth in Union Cabinet but also rejected the rotation Chief Minister in the State as per the previous precedence and thereby ditched its senior leaders in J&K who were demanding the same, sources added.
