| Soni to visit capital cities shortly, announcement of new PCC on cards | | Congress rescheduling its deferred programmes | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 27: After having put on hold all its activities and programmes in the wake of Kishtwar clashes, state unit of Congress is gearing up once again into active mode with some political functions and meetings on anvil in both the capital cities. The programmes that were deferred in the aftermath of Kishtwar developments are being rescheduled with visits of senior leaders of PCC besides incharge J&K Ambika Soni on agenda . Also on cards is the announcement of newly constituted Pradesh Congress Committee, which is expected any time soon .
Sources said that with situation gradually improving in Kishtwar, the major ally of coalition is all set to start its party activities which were shelved due to attention of the entire Government to tackle and handle serious developments in the aftermath of the clashes. One of the main programmes of Congress, provincial level convention which was scheduled for August 11 and for which all preparations had been made was postponed after clashes erupted on August 9 . Besides all senior leaders Ambika Soni and Ghulam Nabi Azad were to attend this convention in Jammu, for which cadres at the block level had made gala arrangements in respect of making it a show of strength.
Sources said apart from organizing rallies across the state, the final shape to re constituted PCC is under active consideration of the party. Though functionaries and office bearers of the new executive body as also the entire PCC has been more or less decided, there were disputes and differences with respect to some names who were recommended by some leaders for the new committee, sources said. However, in order to give a final shape to list of names already in panel, an informal meeting was held few days back at the residence of PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz in New Delhi in which matters pertaining to this pending task were discussed afresh, sources further said. In the meeting Ambika Soni, Sham Lal Sharma and Ravinder Sharma besides Prof Soz were present. " It is not a delayed matter…..our party has a functional PCC which is doing all activities …… nevertheless reconstituted PCC would be announced shortly ", said a senior party leader confirming an exercise has been set rolling afresh to finalize the names for new body.
Pertinent to mention is that new PCC has been reconstituted after over three years. High Command gave nod to continuance of Prof Soz as president of the state unit and this was declared officially as well a month back. In the new panel , sources said care has been taken to give representation not only to all the regions and places where Congress has its strongholds, but also to the fact that Congress still continues to be divided in the J&K where loyalties are divided between Soz camp and Azad camp. |
