LoC falls silent, no truce violation

JAMMU, Aug 27: No truce violation was reported on Tuesday, something which was going on the Line of Control (LoC) since August 6 when Pakistan army had killed 5 soldiers of Bihar regiment in Chakan-da-Bagh sector. In the month of January, 87 truce violations were reported till August 27 in which 7 civilians were injured in Poonch district. One of them identified as Parvez Ahmad, resident of Sandot was injured critically and is under treatment at Jammu since August 16. Several houses in Poonch and Rajouri district were damaged in firing of mortars and RPG shells from across the border.Meanwhile, more than 150 inhabitants of village Dehri in Balakote sector (Mendhar) including women and children staged a Dharna at 'Yadgar Sathal' near Tehsil office at Mendhar and were demanding safe accommodation for all of them. They said that they were spending sleepless nights following by continuous mortar, RPG, heavy machine gun firing by the Pakistan army since August 6.They said that most of their houses were damaged in the firing and life has become very difficult for them due to heavy firing and were adamant to meet Deputy Commissioner. At about 5 pm today, Mohammed Sajad Hussain, DDC Poonch met with the people at Mendhar and assured them that soon a decision will be taken to mitigate their problems.According to reliable sources, people have given two days time to the DDC to provide them safe places till the firing is continue. If administration failed to do so they will occupy government buildings at Mendhar or at other safe places. People also asked the DDC to provide them land at safe places so that they can permanently shift to avoid firing from across the border. People narrated their problems being faced after continuous truce violation by Pakistan army. Soon a high level team will be constituted which will visit the entire villages along 120 kilometer long LoC in Poonch district and facing the same problems. The report will be sent to government for necessary action/ measures" said DDC. On August 26, Pakistan army targeted many forward posts in Sabjian, Mandi, Krishna Ghati, Balkaot and Hamirpur sectors in Poonch district and some mortars also fell in Ghambir sector in Rajouri district. A shell fell near the house of Fazal Hussain near village Naka (Tarkundi) and the family had a narrow escape. Meanwhile Col R.K.Palta, PRO Defence (Jammu) said that firing has been stopped after 6 pm on Monday in all the sectors in Poonch and Rajouri districts. "No loss to life or property was reported at our side during firing on Monday" said Col Palta.
