| PDP urges India, Pak political leadership to act with wisdom | | "Maintain spirit of ceasefire at any cost to consolidate peace" | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 27: Expressing serious concern over disturbing escalation of cease-fire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today emphasised on the need of maintaining spirit of the cease-fire all along the border at any cost. Party appealed political leadership of both India and Pakistan to act with wisdom to control further escalation of tension on the border. In a meeting, which was convened today under the chairmanship of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in connection with the preparations of Lok Sabha elections, PDP leader said that peace on the borders was in the interest of the people Jammu and Kashmir because they bear maximum brunt of the hostility between the two countries. Meeting expressed its concern over unpleasant events on the LoC recently and emphasized on the need of taking some concerted steps to stop such unfortunate incidents in future. Speakers said that the ceasefire, which was announced on the border by the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in the year 2003, had brought positives changes lives of the common people in Jammu and Kashmir. "The ceasefire all along the border from Kathua to Kargil had proved to be an very important event not only for the two countries but also for the people in all the regions of Jammu & Kashmir", they said, adding "For the people of Jammu & Kashmir the ceasefire has brought peace in their lives so we are hopeful the leadership of two would realize the importance of maintaining the spirit of the ceasefire", PDP leaders said.PDP leaders said that the ceasefire, had not only given the much-needed relief to the people living along the borders, but it had also laid foundation for initiating the process of peace and reconciliation in this region. "The ceasefire had brought relief and normalcy into the lives of people residing in the border areas," they said and added that at the same time it also made historic initiatives like opening up of LoC for bus service and cross LoC trade possible. The PDP leaders said the ceasefire had provided a strong foundation for the amicable resolution of all the outstanding issues including Kashmir. "Instead of allowing all gains of ceasefire to go waste, political leadership of both India and Pakistan must accelerate the process of peace and reconciliation", they emphasized, adding, "sub-continent's security and stability would largely depend on how the leadership of India and Pakistan would behave in the given situation"."We urged leadership of both the countries to maintain ceasefire for the security of life and property of people of Jammu and Kashmir", they said, adding, "the situation necessitates that instead of indulge into taking hostile steps both the countries should continue this process of dialogue to prevent another era of turmoil in this sub-continent". They recalled how residents of Jammu and Kashmir had faced worst situation during hostility between India and Pakistan before announcement of cease-fire on LoC.
