| Police bust weapon snatching module by arresting three persons | | Cordon, search operations continue in Ahmad Nagar area | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Police today claimed to have busted a weapon snatching module of six persons by arresting three persons involved in different incidents of weapon snatching in the Pulwama district. A police spokesman said that after receiving specific information, Police in Tral detained Nazir Ahmad Rather alias Afridi son of Ali Mohammad resident of Dadsara, Tral in connection with the incident related to snatching of weapon from a CRPF jawan in Tral on October 9. The spokesman said during questioning Nazir revealed that he along with five others have planned and executed the attack and weapon snatching at Tral Town. "During the investigations it got revealed that the same group was also involved in the attack on police guard at Koil, Pulwama where they left behind the snatched weapon from CRPF constable at Tral. The other associates of Afridi involved in these incidents are Rafiq Ahmad Bhat alias Rafiq Dada resident of Astan Mohalla Tral, Shakoor Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Sultan resident of Koil, Pulwama, Aqib Ahmad Daboo son of Ghulam Mohammad Daboo resident of Wav Masjid, Tral, Ubaid Ahmad alias Molvi son of Mohammad Shafi Shah resident of Tral Payeen and Irshad Ahmad Khan alias Arkhan son of Abdul Rehman Khan resident of Lajoora, Pulwama," said the police spokesman. The police spokesman said those arrested among the module are Nazir Ahmad Rather, Rafiq Ahmad Bhat and Shakoor Ahmad Bhat. He said there is nothing against Aqib Ahmad Daboo, Ubaid Ahmad, Shakoor Ahmad Bhat and Irshad Ahmad Khan with regard to militancy related incidents. Pertinent to mention that on October 9, some persons attacked CRPF constable near Town Hall in Tral and decamped with his service rifle after injuring him seriously. Immediately after the incident Police Station Tral registered a case FIR number 57/2013 and manhunt was launched to nab the culprits. In the meantime, search operations continued for the second consecutive day today in Ahmad Nagar area of the city outskirts where a top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander is said to be hiding. The LeT commander had broken the cordon laid by police and security forces in order to nab him and some of his associates earlier this month. Reports reaching here said that Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police and CRPF conducted searches in Hanji Mohalla locality of Ahmad Nagar for the second running day today. Searches were also conducted in other localities of Ahmad Nagar, Umarhair and Anchar Lake. It is believed that LeT commander Abu Huraira, who escaped after injuring at least four cops, including an officer on October 3 in an overnight gunfight, is believed to be hiding in the area. Both Police and CRPF faced embarrassing situation after failing to nab the LeT commander and some of his associates hiding in the area. |
