Early Times Report
srinagar, Oct 12: Senior NC leader and Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone has earned notoriety in using "foul language" in and outside the Assembly and hurling abuses at his opponents. And very sarcastically the notoriety-Lone has earned- is now being ascribed as "Kalami Akbari".
Though the phrase was first coined by a young journo on June 25 this year at a function organized by the Postmaster General to release a postal-ticket in the name of noted Kashmir poet, Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor at SKICC, however, the phrase Kalami Akbari was of late used by PDP legislator, Abdul Haq Khan on Monday last in the Assembly when he had a heated argument with Lone during which Lone hurled abuses on him.
Actually the Kalami Akbari traces its origin to the aforementioned function of June 25. On that day when the Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone entered the venue of the function, almost all the media persons broke into laughter as one of the journalists instantly but sarcastically said, "The Minister for higher learning has entered the hall".
They laughed even louder when Lone while taking a corner seat in the front row gave a big high five to another Minister and the sound echoed in the entire hall. On this another journalist said, "Akbar teaches Akbari".
Now the PDP MLA Abdul Haq Khan has ascribed the phrase to Lone, who according to the former used 'unparliamentary' language when the two (Haq and Lone) entered into a heated argument in the House over some issue on Monday last.
The PDP MLA lamented that the "unparliamentarily language" has damaged the reputation of mainstream leaders in the State.
"When I was arguing why my bill was not tabled, Lone hurled choicest invectives at me alleging that I was a militant and blah blah blah… while as I was practicing law as an advocate," Haq told the House.
He counseled all the members to refrain from unparliamentary words for it has damaged their reputation and dignity and stooped their prestige very low among the people in J&K.
"People are showing me videos on YouTube. They are questioning the 'rude' words we use in the House… They ask if this is the language our representatives use in a prestigious House! We should refrain from it otherwise a day will come when people will spit on our faces," Haq said while referring to the video of altercation between him and Lone uploaded on Youtube.
The PDP member urged upon all the members to avoid unparliamentarily language to save their as well as the sanctity of the House. "People have voted us to power to address their problems. They have not elected us for the way we stoop low in our conversations in the Assembly."
