The decision of projecting Sheikh as consensus party candidate from Kishtwar constituency was taken during a meeting in Jammu a few days ago. The leaders feel that the veteran leader is the only option for the Congress party to regain its glory in the constituency. Kishtwar constituency which never wins by the Congress party after Ghulam Rasool Arman defeated NC stalwart Bashir Ahmed Kitchloo in 1985. The Congress party in Kishtwar suffered a massive political dent to its vote bank in 2008 election as Congress candidate Thakur Jughal Bhandari managed less than 2000 votes as compared to nearly 15000 votes in 2002 elections.
