Mysterious death of 8th class student | Family protests against police inaction | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Oct 17: The family members of the deceased Omar Rehman, an 8th class student, who was found hanging on October 11 in a forest area near village Kotdhara under the jurisdiction of Rajouri police station, held a protest at Palma and blocked the road for more than 2 hours. They were alleging that despite the assurance give by the district SP to solve the murder mystery within 7 days police has failed to identify the culprits. They blocked the Rajouri-Budhal-Reasi road at Palma alleging that despite assurances given by the District SP Mubassar Latifi that the criminals will be behind the bars within seven days, the police have failed to establish the identity of the culprits instead the police has started harassing the innocent villagers on the pretext of investigation/questioning. On Tuesday and Sunday police called up more than 40 villagers including Sarpanches and Panches to police station for recording their statements despite the facts that it was harvesting and festival (Eid) time. "Instead of identifying the actual criminals, police have started harassing the innocent people of the area. We will wait till Sunday and after that a protest will again be organized against the police," said Abdul Rehman. On Friday last the body of Omar Rehman son of Abdul Rehman, was found hanging with a tree near village Kotdhara while on way to his home at Palma after spending night at the house of his uncle Mir Hussain (Fufa) at village Dana about 6 kilometers from his house. After finding that her only son did not return to the house on the fateful day, mother Marida Begam tried to contact him on his mobile phone but it was switched off. |
