NC likely to lose further its support-base in Kashmir | Pre-poll survey | | Neha
JAMMU, Oct 17: Anti-NC wave is sweeping the Kashmir Valley. Leave alone Jammu province and Ladakh where this Valley-based, separatist-friendly and essentially communal outfit is looked down upon by the people, barring a few disgruntled elements here and there. This is what the latest pre-poll survey clearly suggests. The pre-poll survey was conducted by C-Voters for TIMES NOW-India TV only a few days ago across the country covering 28 states. The survey shows that the Congress-led UPA will bite dust if elections to the Lok Sabha are held now. It will win 117 seats, including 102 Congress seats and the BJP-led NDA will get 186 seats, including 162 BJP seats. In other words, the Congress's tally would come down by 104 seats - a massive defeat -- and the BJP's tally would go up by 46 seats. The survey also shows the BJP and the PDP winning one Lok Sabha seat each and the Congress and the NC losing one seat each. More importantly, the survey shows that the NC will get only 15 per cent of the total votes polled. In 2009, the NC had got 19 per cent of the total votes polled in the Kashmir Valley. It had not contested the Lok Sabha election in Jammu province as per the seat-sharing formula reached with the Congress. As for the BJP, which is expected to win one Lok Sabha seat, will get 23 per cent of the total votes polled, which means an increase of 4 per cent. In 2009, the BJP had, like the NC, got 19 per cent of the total votes polled and won all the three Lok Sabha seats in the Valley. In other words, the BJP will be polled 8 per cent votes this time as compared to the NC's vote share. There are reasons to believe that things would deteriorate further as far as the NC in the Valley is concerned and the Congress in Jammu province is concerned. For, both the parties have behaved irresponsibly. It is obvious that the PDP would exploit their unpopularity in the Valley and the BJP in Jammuprovince. All in all, it can be said that the NC has over the period lost much of its sheen and appeal. |
