Rajouri, a safe haven for land mafia 10/17/2013 10:13:12 PM Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 17 : Rajouri district is on the top among 22 districts of the state for encroachment on government land. SK Mughal, president social justice and ad-hoc president of Anti Illegal Reservation Front (AIRF) has said that this was disclosed by the revenue department of the state and has demanded CBI inquiry in to nexus between land mafia, politicians and officials of the district administration. He added that it was several times highlighted by the NGOs in the print media but the government has been observing criminal silence on the issue. These encroachers have even encroached the land belonging to historical monuments including Rajouri forts in the heart of the city and right under the nose of district administration. Few years ago JBC machines were sent to Rajouri to remove the encroachment from the Chief Education Officer office, DIET complex, new and old district hospital complexes, PHE and forest lands etc . But it did not reach Rajouri due to political interference and it has increased the activities of the land mafia. According to revenue department information over 2 lac acres of government land has been encroached in the Jammu region and Rajouri with 49502 acres top the list followed by Doda district where 22193 acres of government land was encroached. 20940 acres of government land is in the illgal custody of land mafia in Ramban district while Jammu district with 2o444 acres of government land is on 4th position. District Shopian is on the last position where 1647 acres of government has been encroached by the land mafia . In Kashmir province, according to official statistics of J&K Revenue department, 52866 acres of land has been in illegal occupation/encroached by the land mafia.
