| Dhanore road under PMGSY yet to be completed | | Deadline expires 5 years ago | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, Oct 17: It seems that the repeated reprimands by the Central Government on poor implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes has no bearing on the functioning of the State Government as the Dhanore road under Prime Minister Grameen Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) scheme is yet to get completed since the expiry of deadline five years ago. Locals of Dhanore informed Early Times that the PMGSY road to Dhanore was started on January 10, 2007 with sanctioned cost of Rs 102.93 lakhs and the deadline for completion of project was fixed for January 9, 2008 but five years have been passed since deadline was expired, only half of the work has been completed till now. "The project is still an illusion as instead of solving our problems of road connectivity it has enhanced our difficulties", they said, adding that when the work was started it was in full swing but with the passage of time the pace got slow and eventually came to a grinding halt. The villagers said that the contractor has left many loopholes in the construction of the road as at some places there were no drains, besides even protection walls were not constructed. They further said that due to earthwork near houses, steep slopes have been created near some houses. "Few livestock had also died after falling from the height, besides this there is every possibility of houses getting collapsed", they said, adding that instead of repeated requests to the contractor, he has turned a deaf ear and has not bothered to construct protection wall for the houses. They further said that with the suspension of road work, same has looking a drain full of stones, which made it difficult for vehicles to pass through the route. Angered over the casual attitude of concerned authorities, villagers further said that many a time they had visited concerned department through deputations and staged protests too, but all in vain. Lamenting the local administration and the government, they further said that they had learnt from department that in the next phase the bitumen work of same road has been sanctioned, but the question was that when the previous work has not completed then how could the next process be started? Presently, the construction work has been suspended for the last three-four years and due to rains the half done work too has been washed away, they said. Expressing his anguish against Union as well as State government, MLA Basohli Jagdish Raj Sapolia said that such policies were just to befool the masses. "If the projects are started by the government then it is also its duty to get them completed within stipulated timeframe", he said, adding that delay in execution of the project showed the casual approach of the government which has failed to take action against concerned officials and contractors. He demanded a high level inquiry against such people so that responsibility could be fixed for the lapse. |
