| Choudhary demands compensation for farmers | | | ET Report jammu, Oct 17: BJP MLA from Suchetgarh Assembly constituency Sham Choudhary has accused the state government of ignoring the helpless farmers for the losses caused to their crops and houses due to natural calamities. Sham Choudhary, who had his weekly sitting at the party headquarters on Thursday, said that large number of farmers from different rural areas, including those from Suchetgarh, have been approaching him with the common complaint that the government did not provide adequate compensation for the losses of crops and houses which occurred two years ago due to severe hailstorms. He said that the people are also having grouse against government's inaction over the damages caused to the farmers due to recent rains and storms. He said that although high sounding self-congratulatory assertions of having provided compensation are being made but on ground there is nothing to show for it and as a result people have widespread resentment against the government. Sham Choudhary said that farmers constitute about 80 per cent of the population of the country but unfortunately they have been deprived of their genuine rights as well as benefits of various schemes launched for their welfare and betterment. |
