Early Times Report
KATHUA, Oct 17: Resenting the dilly-dallying attitude of the Consumer and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department, the ration card holders of ward number 4 staged a massive protest blocking the college road. The protestors said that neither they get ration in time nor in full quantity as fixed by the government.
Rekha Rani, while accusing the department said that consumers never know when the ration comes and when it is distributed.
She alleged that today dealer came here to distribute ration but soon fled away, keeping consumers to wait standing in queue for hours. Later the consumers came to know that he had gone away for securing more ration quota as the store had lesser quantity as compared to the number of card holders.
Another card holder Tarsem Lal alleged that ration is being distributed arbitrarily as the dealer give preference to the known neglecting the poor people who keep on waiting in queue.
Raising a question mark on the distribution system of the dealer, he said when department is sending the ration according to the number of ration cards, then why everybody is not getting ration? We want an inquiry into the matter, he added.
Knowing about the road blockage, SHO and TSO rushed to the spot and called upon the dealer and asked him to start distribution of ration. Other than this TSO assured consumers that everyone will get ration accordingly. Whereas the protestors asked the department to shed its policy of ill treatment to consumers and immediately direct the dealers to improve their distribution system failing which the coming days may witness more protests.
