New Delhi, Oct 17: Three alleged masterminds behind leaking of question papers of Staff Selection Commission's Combined Graduate Level Examination were on Thursday remanded in judicial custody till October 30 by a Delhi court.
They included a Delhi Police sub-inspector. The court also extended till same day the judicial custody of nine other accused, including candidates who were to appear in the Tier-II examination scheduled for September 29, and an Income Tax inspector from Mumbai. Special CBI Judge Pradeep Chaddah remanded Mukesh Mann, an employee of ESIC, Parveen Mann, a Sub-Inspector of Delhi Police and Vikram Singh Mann, in judicial custody after CBI completed their interrogation.
The accused whose judicial custody has been extended today are Manoj Kumar, Rajneesh and IT inspector Amit Khatri.
The candidates in judicial custody include Jaibir, 25, Somveer Malik, 24, Vikas Lakra, 26, Divas, 20, Rohit Khatri, 26 and two women candidates Preeti, 20 and Ashu Rani, 25. All the accused have been booked under IPC for cheating, conspiracy and under Prevention of Corruption Act.
CBI had alleged Mukesh, Manoj, Rajnish, Surendra (absconding), Praveen and many others hatched a conspiracy to leak question papers of Combined Graduate Level Examination (Tier-II) which was conducted on September 29, get them solved by experts and provide the same to candidates at the exam centre through electronic means in return for money.
The Tier-I examination was conducted by SSC in April-May this year for shortlisting candidates for Tier-II exam which were conducted on September 25 and 29.
CBI had alleged Vikram, Mukesh, Rajneesh, Manoj and Parveen are masterminds. They had charged Rs 5 lakh from each candidate.
The probe agency said Mukesh had enough sources to get question papers solved within minutes of the starting time of the exam and transmit the answers to select candidates through electronic means within the exam duration. It said the accused had managed to obtain answer keys to question papers and some public servants are also suspected to be involved in the crime. SSC is a government body to make recruitment to group C (non-technical) and Group B (non-gazetted) posts in departments of Government of India and its attached and sub-ordinate offices. SSC functions under the Department of Personnel and Training.
