Jammu, Oct 22: Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha (BGM) has demanded from the union home minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde to take concrete measures to ease tensions along Indo-Pak borders which have heightened due to continuous cease fire violations from across the border. A Six Member delegation of BGM led by president Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, which called on the union home minister, at CM Residence Jammu ,brought to his notice several problems being faced by the border residents on account of prevailing situation on the borders. Poswal told home minister that continuous firing from across the borders has sent a wave of fear among the border residents and forced many of them to migrate to other places. He also told Shinde that Gujjars have been facing the brunt of the prevailing situation as they reside along the borders in large number. He told Shinde that Gujjars are nationalist to the core and have played a vital role in fighting and eliminating militancy from the state. He also demanded from the union home minister to grant political reservation to Gujjars of the state as per the provision of Indian Constitution. "In the absence of political reservation, this downtrodden community has not been able develop and flourish", he told Shinde. He also demanded from ShInde to issue directions for recruitment of middle pass youth of the Gujjar community in belt forces. "Residing in far-flung and inaccessible areas, the Gujjar youth do not have access to higher education and other avenues. As such the middle pass youth should be recruited in all the belt forces", he demanded from Shinde. Shinde gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the delegation members and assured that he will take all possible measures to address the problems of the Gujjar community of the state. |
