| Cong, NC, PDP project concern in own ways, BJP too joins race | | Politics over border situation heats up | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 22: As the tension escalates along border, both IB as well as LoC with Pakistan, politics over border situation has also increased proportionately with various political parties in J&K coming out with statements having contents that suits their constituencies. Congress which has major stakes in border areas, having MLAs as well as an MP elected from these areas has become active for the last few days in demonstrating concern over continuous ceasefire violations which are affecting now civilian population. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also woken up to continuous ceasefire violation by Pakistan , prompting him at last to make a statement, no matter in taking a dig at Pak and urging Centre to take serious cognizance , his sudden concern prompted Congress to appear on the scene exhibiting a little more anxiety and fear for the border area residents. While Union Home Minister, belonging to Congress party only made an aerial visit to border areas, though seen as late step, the leadership of the party in the state did not fail to seize the opportunity of keeping an edge over all other parties in calling on the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to discuss this issue separately with him. A delegation of senior Congress leaders met him, discussed the prevailing situation and also submitted a memorandum. The memorandum of JKPCC apart from expressing deep concern over the unabated firing by the Pakistan and highlighting sufferings of the people residing near LOC and International Border in the state, also reminded him that it was Congress which had sought to draw his attention sometime in July this year towards the problems being faced by the border residents besides the issues related to refugees. During the meeting today Congress while asking for firm measures to deal with the situation, has strongly asked for relief and rehabilitation package for both border residents as well as the refugees. Not to remain behind the scene in registering presence against heat generated by the border , NC 's Jammu leadership has sought Development Authority that can safeguard the interests of the border residents. NC in fact turned euphoric in projecting a visit to the border area Abdullian, in Suchetgarh sector as unique political bonhomie when the leaders of National Conference, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party shared a common stage to express solidarity with those hit by border shelling. However, PDP stalwart Mufti Mohammad Sayeed expressing views on the same issue, spoke in a little different manner in cautioning against allowing escalation of violence on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border .He called upon political leadership of both India and Pakistan to show greater magnanimity at this juncture and work for silencing roaring guns on the borders and replacing the war cries with talks of friendship and peace. Also, not undermining the sufferings of the border residents, Mufti in a statement today said border areas are bearing brunt of any armed confrontation and have been frequently uprooted from their hearths and homes at the time of hostility between two countries. The PDP veteran emphasised on the need of maintaining sanctity of the cease-fire at any cost. |
