| Call the Pakistani bluff, snap all ties with Islamabad | | UN Resolution | | Neha JAMMU, Oct 22: Islamabad on October 21 again questioned the Indian stand on Jammu & Kashmir that it is an integral part of India and shall ever remain so and said that New Delhi cannot overlook the United Nations resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir. "It is unfortunate that Indian leadership continues to refer to the state of Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India, when the reality is clearly otherwise," a Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman said while reacting to the statement of the Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, and added that the "Kashmir dispute is the core issue that remained unresolved between the two countries". "The Kashmir dispute remains a fundamental component of the bilateral dialogue process and resolution of this dispute is vital for maintaining peace and security in the region. India's continued intransigence over this issue is counter-productive and is unhelpful in the efforts to resolve this dispute," Islamabad also said. The outrageous and provocative statement from the Pakistan Foreign Office came less than two days before Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's scheduled meeting WITH US President Barack Obama in Washington on October 23. Nawaz Sharif on October 20 sought the American intervention to resolve the Kashmir issue - a suggestion that was rejected by the United States the same day as well as a day later saying there is not an iota of change in its stand that Jammu & Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan and that it has no role to play. Nawaz Sharif had said that the situation could turn dangerous if the Kashmir issue remained unresolved. Islamabad says that the UN resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir cannot be undermined and that India as a member of the United Nations is bound to respect the said resolutions. The Pakistani Foreign Office completely overlooked what the UN resolution of August 13, 1948 talked about. The resolution asks Pakistan to vacate the aggression or withdraw its forces from POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. It also entitles India to deploy its troops in these areas to maintain law and order there. It also says that when peace is restored, the people across the state as it existed on August 15, 1947 would be given the right to self-determination. In other words, it is Pakistan which has undermined the UN resolution by not vacating the aggression, as also by merging Gilgit-Baltistan with Pakistan and handing over a portion of the Jammu & Kashmir territories to China. New Delhi must call the Pakistani bluff and snap all its ties with the rogue Islamabad. It should also tell Pakistan that the people of this part of Jammu & Kashmir exercised the right to self-determination in 1951, when they elected constituent Assembly that endorsed the decision of the Maharaja on the future of the state. It is Pakistan, and not India, which has to allow the people of POJK and Gilgit Baltistan to decide their political future, as the areas they inhabit is under its illegal occupation. However, the problem of New Delhi is the Congress and the UPA Government which have been following a policy that doesn't suit India. They have emboldened Islamabad to rake up the Kashmir issue again and again. Had the Congress-led UPA Government asserted its authority even once and given a freehand to the Army, Islamabad would not have dared to say and do what it has been saying and doing, particularly since June 2013, when Mian Nawaz Sharif take over as Pakistan Prime Minister. Pakistan can be tackled in no time, but it is difficult to tackle the Congress and the UPA which have tied the hands of the Indian Army and created a situation that has led many Indians to question even the role of the Army. The case in point is Keran. |
