| Poonch campus affiliated with JU runs in single room | | | MOHD IRFAN
Poonch, Oct 22 : Bizzare it may sound, but it's a fact that Poonch campus affiliated with prestigious Jammu University is running in single room since 5 years.
Poonch campus which was inaugurated in the year 2008 by then ex-CM Ghulam Nabi Azad & other concerned ministers amid much fan-fare doesn't yield positive results as it hasn't come upto the expectation of the students of Poonch district.
Poonch campus exposes the tall claims of JU vis-a-vis providing better infrastructure, basic facilities like libraries, teaching faculty etc but things on ground are completely contrary to that.
The apathetic & indifferent attitude of the government taking toll and jeopardizing the precious career of thousands of students.
Sources said Poonch campus spread over 60 acres of land but astonishingly it may sound only one course of M.Sc sericulture is going on since past one year in single room coupled with non-teaching staff, teaching faculty, library too inside that single room which creates chaos & mess. This is an excellent example of government apathy towards education scenario.
The axiom "one step forward, two steps backward deems fit to JU. One of the students said "chaotic scenario is prevailing as we are not able to concentrate on our studies as government has shown apathy towards Poonch campus despite funds given by UGC". Sources divulge Co-ordinator Head of Poonch campus Prof J S Tara hardly remains present in campus and prefers to remain in Jammu for excursion & at the majority of instances students are not able to contact him for their grievances . "There is another room with M.Sc sericulture where E-learning course is being taught to girls students especially since 2008 which is related to computer, sources said adding from previous year 2012 first time the M.Sc course related to sericulture was being introduced & students are made to suffer for no fault of theirs due to poor facilities & faculty etc. Another students rued, "The way Poonch campus has hardly two rooms which speaks volumes of callousness on the part of government as government schools have also more than 2 rooms but this campus is restricted to only two rooms which dented the credibility of government & Poonch administration which boasts of providing better facilities to students "he added.
Startling revelations say that during approval of this campus Government has sanctioned other subject combinations too but they are not yet been advertised & constructed affiliated department of sericulture doesn't serve the purpose.
Due to absence of different approved courses in Poonch campus students of erstwhile Poonch & Rajouri district particular are in immense hardships for studies as they have to move outside states for pursuing their favourite different courses after spending exorbitant amount, sources said adding authorities at the helm of affairs do not pay any heed as they are least bothered to redress their genuine plight.
"At the same time during Poonch campus inauguration Bhaderwah campus too laid foundation stone but cursory look is enough which shows Bhaderwah campus fully equipped with all the approved courses which clearly indicates glaring instance of discrimination to the students of Poonch campus" sources asserted.
Students of Poonch district alleged that JU administration have given step motherly treatment to Poonch campus as it has failed to start courses which left students aghast. Reliable sources revealed Director of campus failed in his assignment as he is unable to bring reforms like development of campus. Students say that several times they bring into the notice of MLA Poonch & higher administration despite verbal assurances nothing has done so far.
According to the Constitution of India, depriving a masses of any basic amenities amounts to human rights violations.
Elaborating, the MLA castigated Jammu leaders for not raising their plight in meetings and elections as they ignored them, but it is irony that when it comes the turn of election centre gives first preference to Poonch district for getting majority of votes" he maintained. |
