NCP demands Battalions of Border Scouts for strengthening security grid

Jammu, Oct 22 : Expressing serious concern over continued firing from across the border right from Kathua to Akhnoor resulting in migration of people from the border belt ,former minister Thakur Randhir Singh NCP chief J&K state has urged the central govt to raise Battalions of Border Scouts on the pattern of Ladakh Scouts for strengthening security grid in the frontier areas of the state .
In a statement issued here today after intensive touring of the disturbed Jammu border Singh said he has been demanding since long raising of Border Scouts by recruiting able bodied Ex Servicemen and retired officers and personnel of the Army and Central paramilitary forces as well as youth of the border areas of the state who are well acquainted with the topography of the area would be very useful second line of Defence to ensure protection of life and property of the border areas.
Singh said it is sad that more than 5 lakh people from Jammu , Kathua , Samba to Poonch are working as labourers in Mumbai , Pune, Delhi, Amritsar and Chandigarh and other parts of India as they don't have any jobs in these areas.
Singh suggested that till Border scouts are raised , immediate steps should be taken to constitute Border Village Defence Committees and provided with sophisticated weapons to instill confidence among the people of the Border areas who are facing serious hardships and are forced to leave their homes and herds because of continued shelling from Pakistan .
Singh also demanded that an integrated action plan be immediately formulated and implemented in a time bound manner for ensuring safety , security and rapid socio economic development of the border areas particularly in Jammu region who have been becoming victims of Pakistan notorious designs for the past over six decades .
In this context Singh suggested to relocate the border fencing right upto the zero line raising its height and making it impregnable to ensure against any infiltration from across the border , taking all possible measures to plug all the possible infiltration routes of the militants and encouraging cultivation of Aromatic and Medicinal plants and mule breeding farms in the entire border so that each inch of Indian soil is cultivated from Kathua to Poonch.
