early times report
Jammu, Oct 22: The people of Palma village today staged a dharna to protest inaction of the police in solving the murder of a 8th standard student on October 11. On October, 11 Mubasar Latifi, district SP had assured the family that the killers will be behind the bars within seven days.
But when police failed to solve the murder within the given time, the family members and people held a protest on October,17 and again SHO Rajouri, Varinder Gupta assured action before october,20. Today again the family members held protest against the police for its failure to solve the murder mystery and blocked Rajouri-Budhal at Palma from 8 am to 10.30pm and after the assurance by the SHO that the case will be solved parents lifted the dharna.
For the last few days police called more than 50 villagers, including sarpanches and panches, to police station for recording their statements despite the facts that it was time for harvesting. On October11, the body of Omar Rehman, son of Abdul Rehman, and a resident of Palma, was found hanging from a tree near Kotdhara village. He had spent night at the house of his uncle Mir Hussain at Dana village, 6 km from his house. Abdul Rehman was in Mumbai, where he used to work, when the incident occurred.
When her only son did not return home, Marida Begam tried to contact him on his mobile phone but it was found switched off. She contacted Mir Hussain who told her that Omar had left the village at about 7am. Marida left for Dana village and on reaching near Kotdhara she came to know that the body of her son was found hanging from a tree.
After a protest by the family members and more than 100 people at district hospital on Friday, the district SP had promised that police will solve the murder mystery within seven days. During investigation, police had also picked up Mir Hussain, uncle of the victim, his two brothers Mohammed Iqbal, Talib Hussain and his daughter Shenaz. Rajouri SHO Varinder Gupta reached the spot today and promised the protesters that the culprits will be arrested before Sunday.
Abdul Rehman, father of the victim, told Early Times that they have no enmity with anyone. "Instead of identifying the real culprits, the police have started harassing innocent villagers. I have to join my duty at Mumbai after 10 days. The way the police is investigating the murder it does not look that will solve the murder within next two days as promised by the SHO today" said Abdul Rehaman. In the late evening Mubassar Latifi, district SP and Aizaz Sheikh, DSO operations, who has solved many murder cases during last two years, had visited the house of Abdul Rehaman and had a one hour long discussion with the family members.
Reliable sources reportedly said that some clue about the identity of the killer/killers of 8 years old Omar were collected by the officials during their talks.
