Omar showers praise on Rahul to stay in power

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 5: Omar Abdullah has showered praise on Rahul Gandhi and this gesture of his has been perceived as an act of appeasement to stay in power.
Omar Abdullah had on Monday said NC is a committed ally of UPA and again today made it a point to appease Rahul Gandhi by stating that NC can never be a part of BJP led NDA.
According to reports, senior politicians privy to important developments had said Omar owes his power and also his continuation in power to Rahul Gandhi.
"Rahul Gandhi preferred Omar over Dr Farooq Abdullah as CM and then when Centre was about to dismiss Omar's government after death of 110 people in state, it was Rahul again who stepped in and saved his chair," said a senior Congress leader from Delhi wishing not to be named.
Another reason for Omar for showering praise on Congress is that he knows NC can't come to power on its own. His party is already on slippery wicket and there is every likelihood that his tally will slip well below 20 seats.
NC also knows that Cong is most likely to emerge as the single largest party and there is every possibility that it may form a government on its own. Another real possibility is that Cong may fall by just few seats and would need support of either PDP or NC.
NC can't afford to be out of power. Power has been ingrained in the DNA of the party and it has not only shared power with the Congress in the past but even with the BJP even that too at a time when Gujarat riots were taking place. The same party now blames Modi for it but when it was sharing power he not only ignored but even Vajpayee government threw the Autonomy report in dustbin but NC kept silence.
"NC is a hallmark of opportunistic politics. It only wants to remain in power and rope in the best bet and then start showering praise at that person but hopefully Rahul doesn't fall into that trap," said a senior Cong leader, wishing not to be named.
