Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: The Meter Readers of the Power Development Department (PDD) alleged that the officials are forcing them to fill more than 300 units per KW per consumer without checking the actual reading on meters, however the officials while playing with the words said that 300 units per KW are nominal for a consumer using ACs during summers. The meter readers of the PDD under the banner of Provincial Power Employees Union (PPEU) are continuously protesting against the department for harassing them to fill minimum 300 units per KW with minimum 5KW per consumer. "Shakti Gupta, Chairman PPEU said, "How can we fill more units than the actual units on meter, officials are not even giving the orders in writing and harassing us to fill more units. We have to deal with consumers; they may get violent if we fill more units." "The department is biased role towards Jammu, the team led by Bashir Ahmed Dar is inspecting the connection of the residents of Jammu but for the last six months no inspection has been done in Srinagar, where the power theft is much more than Jammu," he alleged. PPEU alleged that the department fails to stop power theft, which is being done by the senior officials and industrialist in larger scale and putting financial burden on the middle class domestic consumer. Gurbachan Singh, Superintending Engineer, PDD said, "We have not asked them to go beyond the actual meter reading, but the as per the calculation of our engineers, there should be at least 300 units per KW in one connection using ACs, and if the reading is less than 300 unit, that means there is some hooking or By-pass has been done." "We have instructed the meter readers to check the connection, who have less meter readings," he added. |
