Curbs on vehicular traffic likely to hit attendance in Modi's rally
11/26/2013 10:11:30 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Nov 26 : Restrictions on the movement of vehicular traffic during the December 1 rally of BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narindera Modi at M A Stadium might force people to stay indoors affecting the attendance in the hyped rally.
According to sources the Government in order to ensure fool proof security for Modi's rally has decided to impose curbs on free movement of vehicular traffic on the day and close the National Highway at Kunjwani and also the BC road after 11 am. This will certainly affect the attendance of the people during the rally, sources added.
Sources said that unlike other cities of the country the attendance will be less in Jammu due to curbs on traffic on the rally day and constraint of space at MA Stadium. This will force the people mostly to stay indoors and glue to television sets instead of attending the rally despite the fact that there is lot of enthusiasm among the masses to attend the rally from length and breadth of the State, sources added.
Sources said the total capacity of the Stadium is 40,000 while a portion of it will be covered for stage, security arrangements and bathrooms etc for VIPs because the leaders accompanying Modi will straightway arrive at MA Stadium and return from there.

Sources said BJP has made elaborate arrangements for the rally and the Party was expecting lakhs of people to turn up during the rally as it has distributed the invitation cards to a large number of people across the State. But in view of the security threat and volatile law and order situation in the State which is facing terrorism for last 25 years now the authorities will not take any risk during the rally and impose curbs on the movement of the people on the day, sources added.

Sources said the authorities also took BJP leadership into confidence in this regard and Party National general secretary, J P Nada also discussed the same with top police authorities here. Some changes in the security arrangements like expansion in the place of stage for security reasons were also made on the instructions of Nada, sources added.
